ObjectiveBasing on the census of the AIDS Prevention and Control Program in Henan Province (PCH) in2005, a cross-sectional study was carried out in a Paid Blood Donation rural in Henan Provence. The study was conducted to analyze the quality of life between HIV and HCV co-infectors and HCV mono-infectors, as well as to explore the related factors of the quality of life of the HIV and HCV co-infectors, so as to provide a scientific basis to improve the quality of lives of the HIV and HCV co-infectors.MethodsA village in Henan province was selected as the investigation field. Selecting the cluster sampling method, the HIV and HCV co-infectors and the HCV mono-infectors was interviewed by the system trained investigators face to face in a focused survey, and the related detailed information was obtained by accessing to the medical records of the object of the study and consulting the relevant doctors. The questionnaire consists of two parts. The quality of life questionnaire adopting the universal quality of life scale (SF-36). Data was double entried with Epidata3.1,and processed by SPSS13.0, witha=0.05.ResultsA total of242valid questionnaires were collected, the effective rate are93.08%. There are115groups of HIV and HCV co-infection patients, accounting for46.67%of the total number.127HCV mono-infectors accounting for53.33%.These two groups have differences in the age composition and marital status aspects, While other aspects such as gender, ethnicity, education level, smoking, alcohol consumption, BMI index, infection time and combined with other disease, there is not statistically significant difference (P>0.05).The group of HIV and HCV co-infection patients'SF-36score, PCS physical domain, the MCS psychological field and all of sub-scores are lower than the SF-36 norm, the differences are statistically significant(P<0.05). The group of HCV mono-infectors have no statistically significant difference in the MCS psychological field (P>0.05). The group of HIV and HCV co-infection patients'quality of life is lower than the group of HCV mono-infector, the difference is statistically significant (P0.05), but there is no statistically significant difference in the aspect of BP(P>0.05).We found that in the groups of divorced, widowed, and obesity, there is no statistically significant difference between HIV and HCV co-infectiors and HCV mono-infectors (P>0.05), But specific to certain dimensions, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).After analysis on HIV and HCV co-infectiors'affect factors, we found that these infectors With other diseases have lower survival quality. Analysis on infection time we found that, in different groups, the SF-36score, PCS physical domain, MCS mental field as well as all of sub-dimension scores showed no significant difference (P>0.05), other factors are mainly affect the group of HIV and HCV co-infectiors' quality of life by a specific dimension.Conclusions1. The quality of life of HIV and HCV co-infectors is lower than that of HCV mono-infectors and the SF-36norm.2. The selected investigation field has a relative well rearsched backward, and there is no significant difference during the two groups in BP.3. HIV and HCV co-infection patients have the lowest score of the physiological functions, the psychological field is more sensitive and easy to be affected by gender, age, lifestyle and other factors.4. The factors contribute to quality of life are kinds and combine with other disease is one of the most influential factors.
