Backgroud and Objective:Adenoid is a lump of lymph tissue covering the bases of skull,which is an important defence and immune organ containing various lymphocytes,one-third of which are T lymphocytes which are immune from special antigen or virus or bacteria,adenoid hypertrophy ,which is related to OSAHS,chronic nasosinusitis,secretive tympanitis,et al, can result from repeating inflammation. Therefore,early diagnosis and timely treatment of AH can provent or decrease the complications.In daily work, many children visit hospital because of snuffle,shed tears,snore,short of breath,apnea et al durring sleep time,after lateral radiography of Nasopharyngea,it is very important that if there is an AH confidently. in addition,it is uncertain that if there is AH in normal children without clinical symptoms and if the size of AH relates to the seriousness of clinical symptoms.Hence,this study aims to explore the importance of directive digital radiography(DR) in the diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy(AH).Method:35 normal children regarded as control group and 50 cases with adenoid-hypertrophy as study group were recruited in this study, and lateral radiography were taken in two groups.The morphology of adenoid is analyzed and the size of adenoid is measured, T test and rank test were used to compare the AI of adenoid of control group with study group and the thickeness/AI of study group before theropy with after theropy.Results: X-ray Manifestations of Adenoid characterized by banding soft tissue with smooth downward concave surface in control group,while 23 cases by A bulging projection and 19 cases by wavy in the study group.The adenoid size and adenoid index(AI) of control group,study group were 9.53±3.56 mm,15.11±2.75 mm respectively(t=8.15) and0.47±0.11,0.82±0.09 respectively (t=15.88);AI of study group before theropy and after theropy were 0.82±0.09,0.70±0.10 respectively (t=10.61). There was statistical difference between the adenoid size of control group and that of study group,and either was AI of study group before and after theropy.Conclusion: The morphology features such as contour,thickeness and edge of adenoid and the airway can be clearly observed by the lateral DR radiograph.Furthermore,the size and ID of adenoid can be precisely measured and calculated,and the effectiveness of clinical treatment can be evaluated objectively.Therefore,DR,which is an simple and easy way,can play an important role in the diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy.
