Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the reasons of 50 years or older in vision loss or blind, and transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) is a new technology in treating eye diseases in recent years. This article summarized the principle of action, interaction mechanisms, complications and the indications in transpupillary thermotherapy. And future development tendency are also reviewed in this article. Taking exudative senile macular degeneration as an example and according to the clinical care, it pointed out the applications and the effects of Transpupillary thermotherapy in treating AMD, and discussed the value of TTT in treating AMD. Through the clinical treatment, we found that TTT is very effective method to deal with exudative senile macular degeneration. Such as some aspects like controlling and improving patients vision, controlling leakage and absorbing macular edema. This article is based on the clinical data. During the therapeutic process, we found that (1) TTT is effective to CNV which have different types and different causes. It helps to improve vision and make the risk of blindness reduce greatly. (2) During the treatment of CNV, complications are slight which can hardly affect the vision. (3)The security of TTT is better. It can damage the neuroepithelium slightly which is suitable for the CNV of fovea centralis. (4) The parameters of TTT are hard to fix. It should adjust to the clinical data. Compare with other treatments, TTT has varieties of advantages, such as low cost, good effects and so on. So it can be extended.
