ObjectivesOsteoarthritis of the knee is a common and frequently-occurring disease in orthopaedics, whose main symptoms were genual arthralgia, swelling, joint activity disturbance and so on. The disease was particularly common in the elderly, especially overweight person and in which more females than males. The condition on osteoarthritis of the knee was easy to fluctuating, so the course was long and there is no cure for the exact effective in recent years. As the accelerated speed of population aging the incidence of the diseade will increase, which give heavy burden to penple in physical, physiological and economic factors. On the base of clinical studies, this topic use the meathod of herbal penetration plus sodium hyaluronate in treating patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.To observe the scores evaluated by severity of knee arthritis points table and to observe the comprehensive clinical effect after treatment. In order to provide a reliable clinical guiding recommendation and application of the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee.MethodsAccording to case internalized standard and excusion criteria, from June 2009 to November 2010,240 cases of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee were all chosed from orthopaedics clinic or hospitalized in Wuhan Integrated TCM and Westernal Medicine Hospital. In a random principle, those patients were divided into three groups:treatment group, control group 1,control group 2. Treatment group was treated with herbal penetration plus sodium hyaluronate, control group 1 treated with pure sodium hyaluronate and control group 2 treated with pure herbal penetration, and 80 cases in each group, for five weeks'treatment. According to severity of knee arthritis points table, clinical outcomes such as pain level, maximum travel distance were evaluated before and after treatment. To observe the clinic effect and evaluation of the security after treatment.Using SPSS 17.0 software to establish databases. Comparing one group itself before and after treatment with paired T test, the comparison among groups was performed with single factor analysis of variance, and ranked data with Ridit test. Measurement data was expressed by x±s.Results1. Index of severity for osteoarthritis:The integral mean value in treatment group was 17.79±2.87 before treatment, after that was 5.06±2.45; 17.56±2.68 in control group 1 before treatment,6.86±3.33 after treatment; 18.51±3.28 in control group 2 before treatment,9.63±4.49 after treatment. The improvement of index of severity for osteoarthritis in treatment group were significantly better compared with control groups (P< 0.01), and control group 1 better than control group 2 (P<0.05).2. Comparison of comprehensive therapeutic effect:41 cases cured,24 cases markedly effective,12 cases improved and 10 cases inefficacy in treatment group, with a total effective rate 88.5%; in control group 1,26 cases cured,20 cases markedly effective,11 cases improved and 27 cases inefficacy with a total effective rate 67.9%;13 cases were cured,13 cases markedly effective,25 cases improved and 34 cases inefficacy with a total effective rate 60.0% in control group 2. The efficacy of the treatment group was best in the three groups(P<0.01), which in control group 1 was better than in control group 2(P<0.05).ConclusionsThe therapy of herbal penetration plus sodium hyaluronate for osteoarthritis of the knee displays good therapeutic effect and complementary advantages of Traditional Chinese Medicine and western medicine, which gives prominence to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The method was a trauma tic, with economy price, and easy to operate, therefore which is deserved widespread application.
