Objective Acute suppurative thyroiditis (AST) is a non-specific infectious disease of thyroid. Gengerally, it's infrequent clinically, but more prone to occur in children. The present report was to implore the diagnosis and therapeutic modalities of acute suppurative thyroiditis in order to improve the treatment in children.Methods To retrospectively analyzed the clinical data, diagnosis and treatment of the AST in our hospital over the last 10-years period.Results All patients were performed puncture or surgical drainage in combination with broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. It was necessary to timely incision and effective drainage for the thyriodal abscess. Postoperative bacterial culture and susceptibility testing help to administer sensitive antibiotics and achieve good results. All of patients were followed up between 3 months and 10 years, and recurrence were encountered in 2 cases.Conclusion Surgical drainage in combination with antibiotic therapy was necessary and effective for acute suppurative thyroiditis in order to shorten the clinical course and reduce the recurrence.
