Acute suppurative tonsillitis (AST) is nonspecific inflammation of palatal tonsil. It is a commonly encountered pharyngeal disease with the character of repeated attack and local and general complication. In recent years, researchers found that AST is caused by different kinds of bacterial infection or by mixed infection of bacterium and virus. And much more pathogen becomes drug-resistant strain. Some patients have anaphylaxis to antibiotics. Thus, the therapy by antibiotics is somewhat limited. The operation to move away the tonsillitis is a wounded matter and it can bring some complication. So, the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) may play an important part in this area. This paper is composed of two parts. First, the author makes a summary from two aspects about the knowledge of AST, one from the ancient TCM, the other from the modern medicine and modern TCM. The main idea of this paper is in the second part. The author collected and analyzed the clinical research material made by professor Chen ShaoHong and professor Zhang XiaoYun. They use a mixture named KangGaoRe III treating AST. The result suggests the medicine used by Zhongjin is still effective today.
