ObjectiveTo explore the primary medical services demand of floating population in Minhang district and their health seeking willingness to village health station, to analyze the factors influencing their health services utilization of village health stations, and to raise some suggestions relating to promote the rational configuration of medical resources and protect the medical safety of floating population.MethodsBy the method of combining quantitative and qualitative investigation, such as questionnaire survey and focus group discussion, an investigation on status of health services demands and health seeking behavior of floating population and local residents, and that of the allocation of medical resources of the village health stations and its service for floating population was conducted. Relating to quantitative data, the reasonable descriptive and inferential statistical methods were employed based on categories and distribution characteristics of data collected. All of analysis mentioned above was realized by using SPSS11.5 version software. As to qualitative data, the type-analysis method was undertaken.Results1. The floating population had less education background and low income, and their health services demand were limited.2. The floating population was lack of health insurance, and their payment capacity for health services was limited.3. Although health services demand of the migrants was equal to the local residents, but their health services utilization was rather low and couldn't meet the requirements.4. The medical institution which migrants mainly hospitalized was private clinic, which hardly had medical safety guarantee.5. The floating population knew a little about village health stations and then hardly visited to. A few migrants that had visited there made an appraisal that lowers than that of the local residents. 6. Workload, low income and lower human ware restrict the doctors of village health stations from providing health services for migrants.Suggestions1. The government should take the health service demand of floating population into account when making area plans for health development programs and dispatch health resources according to the total number of the people including migrants.2. It is necessary to develop the rural community healthcare services to fulfill integrating health management of town and village, enhance the number and service quality of village health stations, and improve the accessibility for migrants to health services.3. It's urgent to deepen the reform of management mode and the system for income distribution of village health stations to promote efficiency and improve the quality of services for migrants.4. The system of health insurance of floating population should be strengthened, the coverage be expended, and the benefits be raised.5. Effective public education should be conducted to let the floating population know more about the merit of village health stations and the harm of private clinics.
