Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an ever-growing problem world wide, which constitute economic and social burdens both for the patients and the government.The high incidence of diabetes mellitus and poor blood glucose are related to the shortage of knowledge and bad life style.The diabetes health education is consider as an important part of clinical diabetes managements It help to enhance health knowledge, improve the life style, enhance the ability of self-governing to improve quality of live and to decrease expense on medical care.Objective To know about the meals situation for typeⅡDiabetic patients, bui]d and evaluation the effect of diabetes health education model.Methods Questionnaire survey about Knowledge, attitudes and conduct were conducted for typeⅡDiabetic patients managed in diabetes data management of qingpu in 2006. Course of diseases is divided into four estate (less than 2 years, more than 2 years, more than 5 years and more than 10 years). According to weight index (BMI), the participants are divided into three groups of thin body, normal body and abdominal type. Filter the key in the intervention crowd and various ways of health education was adapted for the intervention effects. Evaluation the typeⅡdiabetic control situation from diabetes knowledge, attitudes, behavior and the change of meals and blood glucose.Results (1) The awareness rate of the Diabetes related knowledge, attitude and the behavior pattern were significantly improved in both study group and control group. The meals situation changed in intervention group, the intake of Oil and salt reduced while vegetables and milk consumption increased. According the analysis of Variation between the course and somatotypes before and after interference, consumption of energy and other adverse food reduced, milk and vegetable intake raised significantly, especially the oil and salt intake decreases, all of these dimensions lower the incidence of complications, Meal nourishment of Patients with less duration or abdominal body changed more significantly. The Effects on Blood glucose of Diabetics with a Rational Control on Daily Total Calorie were significant positive. Glycosylated hemoglobin Alc changed stably between the study groups. The percent of patients who reached HbAlc<6.5% in study group was increased from 34.3% to 38.3%(P<0.05).The HbAlc in study group was decreased by 9.5% on average.(2) Compare with control group, the awareness rate of the Diabetes related knowledge, attitude and the behavior pattern were significantly improved in study group. The BMI was controlled better in study group than control group. The percent of patient with BMI≥24.0 dropped in study group from 47.1% to 31.8%, while 42.0% and 42.6% in control group with no similar change. Blood glucose dropped more obviously than before interference and the control group. Before intervention the first group of diabetes patients in study group is of 58.50%, after intervention 42.49%, lower than the control group (51.43%).Conclusion Health education played an important role in the diabetes management and control. Through assessment, Diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluating five steps of health education model, diabetic patients learn more about their health and actively participate. It is effective ways of Risk Behaviors changed; Blood glucose controlled and improves the quality of life based on the model.
