| Objective To explore the effects of group based activity on quality of life of the senile dementia patientsMethods 71 subjects with senile dementia were randomly assigned into two groups, one of 35, and the other of 36. Subjects of the test group received group based activity except for the routine nursing, while the control group received routine nursing only. CDR, MMSE, MBI, DMAS, QOL were assessed respectively before and after 2,4,6 months'intervention. The participation of the test group was also recorded.Results①There was no significant difference between the test group and the control group on CDR (P>0.05) and no obvious interaction effect between time factor and group factor (P>0.05), but time effect was significant (P<0.05).Compared with the basic level, the change on CDR of test group was not significant (P>0.05), while the CDR of control group had been deteriorated since 2 months (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.05).②There was no significant difference between test group and control group on the quality of life (P>0.05) but had significant time effect(P<0.01) and interaction effect between time factor and group factor (P<0.001).Compared with the basic level, the improvement on quality of life in test group was significant (P<0.001, P<001, P<0.01), while the deterioration in control group was subtle (P>0.05).③The mood in test group was obviously better than that of control group (P<0.05). There was no significant time effect difference between two groups(P>0.05) and no interaction effect between time factor and group factor(P>0.05). Compared with the basic level, the status of mood in test groups had improved, although the change was no significant difference (P>0.05), while that in control group had deteriorated and had significant difference after 6 months (P<0.05).④The level of cognition in test group was obviously higher than that of control group(p<0.05).There was significant time effect difference (P<0.05) and no obvious interaction effect between time factor and group factor (P>0.05). Compared with the basic level, the change on the MMSE in test group was subtle (P>0.05), while the MMSE in control group has been deteriorated, especially after 6 months (P<0.01).⑤The ability of daily life in test group was obviously higher than that of control group(P<0.05). There was no significant time effect difference between two group (P>0.05) and no interaction effect between time factor and group factor(P>0.05). After 6 months, Compared with the basic level, the changes on ability of daily life in two groups were both no significant differences (P>0.05).⑥The degree of participation and the number of participation were only significant related with the change of the ability of daily life(P< 0.05, P<0.01).Conclusion The group-activity is more colorful and effective than the routine nursing in senile dementia patients. It not only can improve the quality of life and the mood of the patients but can maintain the mental status and the ability of daily life. |
