The development of financial IT technology enabled self-service banking terminal equipment and its derivatives including online self-service banking and mobile banking as an important channel for retail banking. It also made the change in bank from the traditional single service to multi-modality.The current self-service systems were categorized through the analysis of their subject and object elements. The users' demand and the disadvantages of the carriers were researched and the users'dissatisfaction and anxiety of the carrier elements in self-service systems were found out and organized with examples. The design of self-service systems was improved according to the users'experiences to make more secure, private self-service equipment with less controversial. The machinery equipment was improved to minimize the risk and effectively avoid the occurrence of crime. The users were guided by a more completed man-machine interface and operating procedures so that more customers' psychological concerns would be eliminated and feel free to enjoy quick and easy service brought about by self-service banking. Banking self-service model was innovated and new-concepts of business models and services were put forward to make sure that the banks and their customers would all got what they need and achieve the purpose of win-win. The behavior characteristics of various typical customer groups were analyzed in the design study. The advantages and disadvantages of the existing self-service banking software and hardware were screened from the perspective of psychology and considering the characteristics of self-service banks. The study to improve it was made. In compliance with the relevant laws and regulations and within the industry-specific areas, guiding principles of design for self-service banking terminals were formed and innovative solutions of design practices to guide the customers'behaviors were put forward. To improve the design by theory and update the theory by design so as to realize the practical value of research and make the transformation of research results more quickly.
