Transmitting large amount of information such as image, video has become an important research subject. Image communication beneath the sea aims to meet the needs of reliable image transmission and exchange, and it will play an important role in monitoring fisheries resources, emergency maintenance of drilling ships and platforms, transmission of submarine topography and seismic image, underwater archaeological activities and so on. therefore, the research on underwater acoustic communication receives more and more attentions.There are a number of relatively mature video compression technologies, such as JPEG and JPEG2000, which have a good performance of intraframe compression and scalability. They are the foundation of image communication under the sea. Furthermore, DirectShow simplifies video and audio capture tasks, and get media stream easier.This article aims at transmitting real-time image in underwater environment, combined with video and audio capture, still image compression algorithm for encoding and decoding, channel coding, signal detection and OFDM technologies to achieve the target of image transmission. There are two terminals in the system, Sending and receiving parts, each contains a number of modules to complete functions such as capture and coding.The article focuses on explaining system structures and the implementation of each part. Flow charts are given to describe the software designs, and the performance of system in actual underwater acoustic channels will be included.
