With the rapid development of mordern military electronics technology, The modern ship is facing increasingly serious threat from radar, sound, light, or weapons guided by heat, therefore a higher performance of stealth ships is required. The OTHR is widely used because of its emission of electromagnetic waves can spread along the sea, and can detect the objectives over the horizon. Generally, the RCS characteristics of the majority of the ship targets detected by the high-frequency OTHR, are in Rayleigh area or resonance areas, but which factors play a major contribution to the RCS of the ship target in the resonance region, and the role of the shape stealth technology at this point are both been little researched, this paper makes a preliminary study and discussion for these issues.This paper introduces the features and functions of the CST Microwave Studio(CST MWS),and its advantages compared with other electromagnetic simulation softwares, and also introduces the theory of RCS and the target characteristics of OTHR, and has a more detailed introduction to the principles of stealth technology and the RCS characteristics of the ship's structure.Next, this article makes an approximate three-dimensional simulation model by a reference of a naval vessel based on CST WMS, and analyses the differences of the RCS curves when the naval vessel is under the wave of 3MHz,30MHz, or 50MHz.This paper also researches the influences to the radar cross section which make by the carrier-based short-wave antennas, radar, missile launchers on the ship target in the resonance region.Finally, this paper makes a study of the dihedral angle which plays a major contribution to the RCS, such as:the dihedral angle formed between the hull of the ship and the sea surface, or between the superstructure and the hull deck, or between the superstructure and another superstructure. through the majority of the simulation results this paper studies the role of the ship shaping to RCS reduction when the ship is in the resonance region.The work done in this article provides a valuable reference to the technology of RCS reduction when the ship target is in the resonance region.
