Microwave sample pretreatment is a rapid development laboratory sample processing technology in the past 10 years. It is mainly used to digestion and extraction the test samples,in order to carry out subsequent analysis and measurement. With the expansion of the scope of application, the technical requirement to the microwave instrument is also higher, which is particularly concerned with the effectiveness of the sample treating and equipment safety. The effectiveness of the sample treating depends on the uniformity of microwave heating, and the accuracy of temperature and pressure control. The equipment safety mainly embodied in the scientific structure design of the sample vessel and a series of active and passive safety measures. This paper introduced the working principle and characteristics of microwave digestion and extraction, and the basic components of typical microwave sample pretreatment equipment. The technical requirements and design routes of several key parts in the development of MSP-X Microwave ChemStation was analyzed, and the optimize design of the microwave resonant cavity and sample vessel was emphatically studied. The uniformity of the electromagnetic field distribution in the microwave resonance is optimized by using HFSS simulation technology. And the design and optimization of sample vessel was guided according the stress analysis theory of thin walled cylindrical pressure vessel. The final design of the MSP-X Microwave ChemStation has an about 60L large capacity cavity with the consisting of industrial grade of high strength stainless steel. It is equipped with safe and reliable ideal gas pressure sensor and optical fiber temperature sensor measuring and control devices,And with multiple active and passive safety measures, can effectively reduce or avoid the probability of pressure out of control or sample vessel damaging. And it is confirmed by the destructive test that the MSP-X can protect the safety of personnel and instrument effectively, and reduce the accident loss even if there was an accident.
