With the rapid development of recent international commerce, container vessel has become a key product in shipping area for its efficiency, convenience, safety and reliability. The considerable decreases of transportation cost make it a high-speed progress in container shipping. Moreover, its deadweight and shape gradually trends to be larger and larger which owed to the cost down of shipping, the development of economic globalization, wider and wider Panama Canal as well as its higher safety requirement. Therefore, it is a meaningful theory and a valuable application to the large type container vessel for its structure research. More and more emphasis is focused on it by marine researcher, especially, the analysis of hold strength and the whole vessel structural strength what becomes a hot point for container vessel research in recent years. With a main description of a strength issue on large type container vessel in this paper together with Builder's practice for 3500TEU/3600TEU/3800TEU/4600TEU which are built before by Shanghai Shipyard Co.,Ltd, we have made the following achievements. The main content has been as follows,1. The structural features and basic structural form of container vessel to be investigated in the paper, the optimization of hull structure caused by operation environment and fabrication technology in the ship building period, the cracks caused by fatigue in the shipping period.2. Depending on structural normative design, make the design to relation between hold structure component arrangement and containers arrangement, including cargo opening corner, transverse bulkhead, hatch coaming plate, bow and so on.3. Make some research on design load calculation and structure finite element model building technology for large type container vessel, make structure loading calculation and make evaluation to yielding and bulkling strength on some typical condition which is stipulated in Rules4. Make fatigue strength analysis to large type container vessel in order to ascertain the serious part of fatigue strength, making some researches according to normative check age method on fatigue strength, then doing some researches on fatigue strength estimate method basing on the hot point stress and finite element analysis 5. Take two container vessels as examples for calculation, including the finite element analysis research on vessel 3600TEU fore mast and deck crane pillar and structure design research on vessel 4600TEU...
