The Evolution And Update Of Dai Traditional Houses

With the socialist modernization construction being in full swing, rural construction is showing rapid progress. During the process, the rural population and the living standards have a great development, and the pattern of traditional houses has also undergone great changes. It must be admitted that the life quality and living environment of the famers have been improved to an unprecedented level by changes of traditional houses. However, in the process of rural construction, many traditional buildings have been destroyed to varying degrees, which is we don't want to see. Now, history and culture are respected, and also, more and more attention is paid to traditional houses. In order to protect the traditional houses, the government promulgated a series of related policies and measures. However, due to lack of necessary theoretical research and practical experiences, there are many problems in the process of formulation and implementation of the policy, which obstruct the protection and renovation work of traditional houses. In order to solve this problem, a growing number of architects, sociologists and other scholars and experts in related fields invest into the research of cultural protection and renewing of residential houses.The thesis inductively focus on research of documents about the form and connotation of the traditional stilt style dwellings in Xishuang Banna Dai, southwestern of Yunnan and Southeast Asian Architectural Culture at first. Next through fieldwork and on-the-spot surveying on the Xishuang Banna Dai Nationality, further information is obtained. And then by the comparative study methods which compare the form and connotation of the typical traditional stilt style dwellings in Xishuang Banna Dai Nationality with which in surrounding area of Yunnan province, Southeast Asian Architectural Culture and the now-existing houses in Xishuang Banna area. For the end, through a comparative study to find the characteristics and rules of the evolvement and renovation of traditional houses in Xishuang Banna Dai Nationality, and the feature elements of the form of dwellings and settlements, and also the intellectual system which is the connotation of dwellings and settlements during its renovation and evolution. And it is focus to find a practical residential evolution way which conforms to the development of the times and geographical characteristics.
