A Study On Identifying The Spatial Nodes On The Edge Areas Of City

Spatial node is an essential component of Urban spatial structure which plays a guiding role in urban development. During the rapid urbanization, it is the edge areas where the urban spatial expands most intensively, where the land-use changes most dynamically, and where the spatial nodes develop most actively. This dissertation considers the edge areas of city as the spatial extent to explore the basic methods of identifying urban spatial nodes.Based on the cases of China's major cities, this thesis carries out an empirical research mainly with comparative and positive analysis. Conclusion and depth analysis have been conducted with the intention of the spatial nodes focusing on industry, compositely developing with transport facilities and safeguarding cities, which summarizes their developing characteristics and effects on urban spatial development. Then this thesis proceeds to analyze factors that affect the formation and evolution of spatial nodes, including the different influences of cities'target location, spatial resources, development stages and regional relations.Using the effects of spatial nodes'development as the cutting-in point, this thesis attempts to construct the primary framework of spatial nodes identifying on the basis of case study. It covers two stages——multi-dimensional identifying and nodes category interpretation. In the first stage, the author carried out a comprehensive analysis of urban space respectively from the factor-dimension, the time-dimension and the space-dimension, aiming to explore the spatial nodes which would make important impact on cities'future development. In the second stage, the author took the spatial nodes identified in the first stage as the research object, and made a deep analysis of the mutual relationship between its self-qualification and the background of city development. In terms of guiding urban planning, it was divided into three types, involving the key development, major control and strategic reservation. The identifying methods should be concluded from practice and verified in practice. Finally, with the case of Dalian city, the thesis testified the methods of spatial nodes identifying and recognized the spatial nodes distribution in the edge areas of Dalian city.
