Motor is the important driver and actuator in electrical transmission system and position servo system. With its high efficiency and good speed regulation performance, as well as overcoming the yawp,electric spark and interference which will seriously reduce the service life of the motor, Brushless DC motor (BLDCM) is widely used in industrial production and research. In recent years, with the development of permanent magnetic materials and the related electronic technology, people pay more attention to BLDCM, while high-performance industrial control system used BLDCM increasingly come out.The application of BLDCM control system is mainly in speed control,position control and torque control, while the first one is fundamental and core. Pules-Width Modulation (PWM) is an digital coding method of analog signal. In this technology we can use a duty cycle to change the motor speed. PID control is well used in industrial automatic control system, and the use of speed and current dual-loop structure make a more reliable speed control result of BLDCM. After a description of the development of BLDCM and its control system, this paper introduces the structure and characteristics of BLDCM, and briefly analyses the mathematical model of motor drive system and control system. A new BLDCM speed control system based on dsPIC30F2010 by Microchip is designed and produced as well in this research. Performance test is also set for the new system. When a BLDCM control system used in low rotate speed, problems like vibration will be brought. The reason of this phenomenon and how to improve the performance of BLDC in low speed is also discussed.The purpose of this research is to design a BLDCM speed control system for market which will markedly improve the control accuracy and performance of existing product without increasing the dimensions or extend peripheral functions of low usage. Combine practical experience and mature algorithm, this research provide reference value for the promotion of application of BLDCM speed control technology.
