After nearly three decades of rapid economic development in China, in a period ofever-accelerating city urbanization with the foot print of the city growing in an unprecedentedrate. With the city′s desire to move forward and speed up the process of development withlarge-scale construction and transformation; this have led to the loss of many historical andcultural buildings and districts of the city that otherwise might have been the bearer of thecultural identity and total loss of local culture an identity is a real threat to the Chinese cities today. The city is a unique symbol of the local cultural identity; therefore the irresponsible processof urban development that fades the original and historical context within the city and distancesthe city from its cultural values is irrational. Furthermore when this approach is used in oldtraditional cities with a traditionally strong local identity the consequences become clear; thisthesis will use the traditional city of Suzhou as a case study.Although the local government in Suzhou focuses on preserving the overall pattern and onheritage conservation in an effective manner the devastation of historical relics of the old townmain features and of the urban landscape is an increasing threat. Suzhou's historicalcharacteristics are diffuse and are gradually disappearing; thus the city is becoming increasinglymore similar to other cities. Further more in the process of urban development due to the actualprocedure does not apply to some of the problems that arises, that leads to fragmentation of theurban landscape in the Old Town; these problems are therefore ignored. How to restore the urban landscape and weaving in the fragmented parts in the city has becomeplanners, landscape architects and architects' biggest challenge. In recent years, since thegeneration of fragmentation and the fragmentation of regions, in the planning profession-promoting a new hot topic has arisen-"weaving the city".The thesis will analyze the uniqueness of urban landscape/urban green area and theconnection between architecture and culture, the spirit of "weaving" as the core theoreticalconcepts,"green field","Architecture" and "culture" as the solution to heal the broken old urbanlandscape. In order to implement strategic "weaving" and thus to repair the broken connectionson a regional and local level to protect and provide for a continuation of the historic urban patternof the old city. As a result, we proceed from this strategy of landscape weaving and focus on themain problems in the theoretical study of practical landscape weaving the content and a systematic approach principle, theory and content. The base of the theoretical system that was researched, using Suzhou as the case study byapplying landscape weaving in the area that is close to Pingjiang district in the heart of Suzhouold town. In a attempt to give suggestion on how to fuse old cities that have been fragmented togetter in to a unity; will contribute to make Suzhou truly enjoy its reputation of a "Paradise onEarth".
