Comparative Study On The Form Characteristics Of The Settlement Of Family Lei And The Vernacular Architecture

Migration—had a profound impact of Chinese society, it also promoted the dissemination and exchange of different cultures. As it comes to architecture, migration routes can also affect the heritage of building technologies and spiritual tradition. Family is the basic unit of social organization in China, for which reason that the entire history of Chinese migration can be interpreted as a migration history of Chinese families. As the memory of the hometown and accommodation need to the new environment, in the process of reconstruction of home, the transmission and evolution of their former building technologies and culture mixed with the ones of new residences by migrants can be seen in new architectures.This paper selected Lei's family as the family case. It analyzed and compared different Lei's settlements along the Lei's migration channel and inferred the relationship of its heritage and its evolution from the angle of"Village","House"and"Construction of houses"separately.Part 1—stated the relationship between the family and migration from the macro perspective and the basis selecting the Lei's family as the example .Then this part summarized researches related and pointed out the lack of them. In the end of this part, further proposed framework was given out.Part 2—collected and organized the Lei's Family Tree, found out the relationship between the various branches. Then this part located the residential distribution of settlements of Lei's family after times of site investigation by the research group and draw out the migration roadmap of Lei's family.Part 3—summarized the conformation causes and forms of the settlement from the village perspective, analyzed the underlying factors.Part 4—classified, analyzed and compared the residential areas of the plan form and spatial sequence , then found out the factors affecting these two elements.Part 5—analyzed characteristics of the large timber construction, especially on the characteristics of the structure around courtyard. Then this part classified the types of ceiling, described its role and identified the factors causing structural feature.Part 6—It is the conclusion of the whole article pointing out that patriarchal relations under patriarchal system has played a decisive role of settlement pattern generation, plan form and space sequence with the regional environment as a accommodation role. In residential construction, materials, technology play the decisive roles.
