As the earliest habitat of human, urban waterfront has been recording of the city's longhistorical information and people's profound emotion and condensing socio-culturalcharacteristics from different spatio-temporal phase of the city. However, With the large-scaleurban rehabilitation and upgrading of the city, many cities paid too much attention to the imageenhancement, blindly pursued the effect what so called faster, larger, newer, which led to theconvergent development of waterfront green space in the old urban and the loss of city memory, while it also made the citizen lack of community identity and the sense of belonging. Therefore,as we are promoting urban development, the problem we should not hesitate to solve is how toprotect the historical context of city, inherit the city memories and maintain the public's sense ofcollective identity effectively.Starting from urban memory, through literature review and field inspection, analyses ofprevious researches which result in the memories of the city and Waterfront Greenland, andanalyses of remarkable cases on expression of the memories of the city, then forming the basisfor further study in this essay. Then, according to the theoretical study of the foregoing, thememory elements of the old urban district waterfront green space is divided into the physicalenvironment and the invisible context, the two elements to refine the classification and in-depthanalysis, and the various elements of specific design strategies, with caseto illustrating theformation of this article the main theoretical studies. Finally, in the example of Chuzhou NanhuPark, for instance, a field survey of the green status quo, and venues in the memory elements ofa detailed investigation, from the view of the memories of the city, summarized in the foregoingdesign strategies to the specific landscape nodel design which confirms the previously proposedtheory, and riches in the study results. In this article, with the purpose of trying to develop and expand the design thinking ofwaterfront green space, theory and practice were combined together to explore the expressionof the old urban district waterfront green build city memories preliminarily and we also hope toprovide some references to the study on the memories of the city and its related issues.
