With the development of virtual reality (VR) technology and the demand of army information, it is of great value to research and develop virtual training system based on virtual reality technology, both in theory and practice. Virtual reality technology was born in the 80s of the 20th century and then develops so rapidly, at present virtual reality technology is widely used in military, entertainment, medicine, geography, information and so on for its great advances.Virtual scene is the base element of virtual training system and it has some characteristic that is different with the common virtual scene. It requires better real-time performance and better quality of immersion. So we need to study a wide range of virtual reality technology to make this virtual scene work. Virtual scene involves the warehouse and the environment around the warehouse, to make a virtual scene like this realized have to work on two topics: three-dimension model simplification and efficient terrain rendering with level of detail.This paper first designs and analyzes the virtual training system based on virtual technology and draws what is needed to accomplish in this paper, that is to construct the virtual scene of virtual training system. Then it studies the theory, method and realization of virtual reality modeling technology, makes an improvement of the three-dimension modeling flow, brings out an optimization flow of three-dimension modeling technology and sums the optimization strategies of three-dimension modeling up. It make an attempt to give the general way to form three-dimension virtual scene of big scale and real-time and constructs a virtual roaming scene in Quest3D. Finally in this paper, it discusses LOD (level of detail) technology in terrain rendering, including the realization of quadtree algorithm and the binary tree algorithm of ROAM. It makes an improvement and test for the ROAM algorithm and analyzes the performance of the improved algorithm.
