Web-based virtual experiments have the important significance and utility value for the experiment teaching in colleges and universities. The technology of computer, virtual reality and the network has been highly developed recently, which provides necessary conditions to build the 3D virtual scene, realize the interaction for virtual experiments and access the teaching resources remotely. This thesis studies the construction method of the mechanical virtual experiment system. It uses VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) to describe the virtual equipments and scene in virtual experiments for mechanical disciplines. And VC is applied to implement the interaction and controlling between the user and the virtual scene. The main content is introduced in detail as follows:Firstly, this thesis designs the system framework of the web-based virtual experiments for mechanical disciplines. In this system, the VRML scene is embedded in an ActiveX control developed by VC. And VC also takes charge of the communication with the VRML scene, as well as the implementation of the whole experiment.Secondly, this thesis enhances the functions of VRML on the modeling of typical mechanical components and structures. And the combined application of nested coordinate system, multilayered sensor structure and script-route mechanism builds up the motion simulation models of the complex equipments.Thirdly, in view of the shortage of controlling function in VRML, VC is added into this system for additional control, which improves the interactivity and controllability of the virtual scene. The VC programs generate and manage the virtual experimental data. And the core functions of the virtual equipments are implemented by VC to refine the functional system of the virtual experiments. Finally, this thesis constructs a series of web-based virtual experiments for the course of Interchangeability and Technical Measurement, which perform the expected function well. This thesis uses VC and VRML to construct web-based virtual experiments for mechanical disciplines, which can restore the real experiments primely with high interactivity. These virtual experiments realize the functions of real experiments very well. Consequently, web-based virtual experiments have a bright future in teaching resource sharing and distance educations.
