Research On Gray Space Of Public Buildings

There is a transit space in public buildings which can be called "gray space".It plays a part in contacting internal and external environment, cushioning various contradictions. The soul of buildings lies in space, and grey space is the most active part. It is a kind of dynamic space which is extremely abundant in building form and connotation.It provides an intimacy platform, combing indoor and outdoor environment. Although "grey space" is a modern word, it had "roots" before. Architects used this kind of space to build a space atmosphere, especially in public buildings. There was quiet a long history and very rich experice in adoption. With the prosperous development of social economy and archtecture construction, gray space has become an indispensable section of public buildings, the research that people make for it has also growed much broader and much deeper. The theory and practic of grey space in public architecture is more diversified, so the research about it is always multipole and dispersive. It is unfavorable to understand and apply grey space systematically and comprehensively, in view of this, I think it is necessary to research this space deeply, so as to contribute our help to the research of related subjects.This paper reviews the theory derivative and historical development of grey space.According to analying all kinds of architecture examples, it summarizes the characteristics,specific treatment methods and designing ways of grey space,analyses its role in public buildings, and on the basis of place spirit and space permeation,it also researches the relationship between the people, the nature and the architecture.Then we can get the important value of grey space between human and nature harmonious. In addition, this paper emphasis on people's psychological needs and mental behavior demands in gray space, and feedback its function, shape and composition. Meanwhile,as to the design concepts and principles, this paper summarizes the development of grey space for the future architectural design and research of inspiration. I hope the plentiful gray space can be used widely in modern architecture and circumstances design. Eventually it can achieve the balance between the circumstances and human beings.
