Research On The Present Situation Of Additional Buildings In Shantytowns And Optimization Strategy Of The Public Space Environment

At present,it is still difficult to reform those shantytowns which exist in traditional industrial areas of cities and are facing difficult housebreaking,lack of funds,complicated approval procedure and other issues.The communication and security of residents' living space are affected negatively by the poor public environment and weak management.This research focuses on how to enhance the quality of living space,promote residents' contact,activate living atmosphere and satisfy residents' demands for safety and happiness under the existing conditions.In order to grasp the space characteristics of shantytowns,the research is developed from three aspects,i.e.the situation of additional buildings,communication and security of the external public space in shantytowns.Three typical shantytowns are selected as the research objects,based on which six types of additional buildings are generalized.The author further discovers that the rigid demand and the design for improvements are the two main reasons for additional construction.Based on Space Syntax and CPTED Theory,those spaces which have special topological depth value are selected and their communication and security are then analyzed under the support of present situations of these spaces and the observation for residents' behavior.The results come that,residents' activity and communication are affected by steric configuration,public space congestion caused by additional building and lack of maintenance and management,while the security of public space are impacted by activity support caused by communication,spontaneous nature surveillance,quantity and management of entrance and maintenance of space image.Finally,for the purpose of improving the communication and security of public space,the author puts forward the optimization strategy for the public environment of shantytowns from five aspects,i.e.traffic streamline,public facility,road space,the space in front of buildings and activity space,by means of reasonable allocation of entrance's quantity and position,planning the traffic flow,adding the public facilities,dividing the functional areas of the main road space,optimizing the living space in front of the house,increasing and improving the activity space,The research has the significance of guiding the design of public space in shantytown,and also plays an important role in promoting the improvement and transformation.
