A Multifunction-Oriented Research On Small Commercial Spaces

With business environment becoming more and more comprehensive and professional, the demand of commercial spaces (CS) ascends. Integration of commercial facilities and functions of spaces results in many commercial complexes and the CS with multiple functions. The research of multifunctional CS is in initial stage and there is few definition of function combination and methodology. The studies on commercial spaces and the modes of multifunction provide the fundation and reference for this project of multifunction-oriented small commercial spaces (SCSs). Aiming at the enhancement of competency of small business by reinforcing the tolerance of functions of SCSs, the paper conducts a cross research of multifunction and commercial spaces and an analysis of the characteristics of different multifunction modes, discusses the application of multifunction in designing SCSs and raises a suitable method of function combination for the SCSs. The research is conducted as following:First, three prevailing theories of the of commercial spaces (Neo-classicalism, Kenoanalytis and Praxis) and related multifunction modes such as general space, supporter, open erection and organic combination are collated. The cross research of multifunction and commercial space is raised.Second, both historical analysis and empirical analysis are practiced for the impact of multifunction to CSs and the modern CS characteristics. The advantages of the multifunction are presented via analyzing the evolution of function of the modern Chinese commercial spaces that multifunction could optimize the structure and elevate the value. Multifunction in CSs also shows the characteristics of comprehensiveness, complementation and dynamically changable.Third, current SCSs are dissected by classification and juxtaposition.In this part the analysis is presented particularly with the reaction between the consumption activities and the SCSs and the undefined analysis of SCSs.Finally, the elements of SCSs of multifunction are further discussed and the paper indicated the principle of function integrations as collocation, combination and exchange. Moreover the non-exclusive interface, flexible interface, and intellectual compound modes are introduced. The designing procedure is particularly explained by case analysis and renovation in which multifunction idea is in place.
