Urban Characteristics Of The Overall Planning Stage. Xiangtan City Construction

The master planning plays an extremely important role in Chinese urban planning system. Many cities confront the complicated and changeable background in the new period. The current master planning copes with shifting events by sticking to an unchangeable policy, and it results in a lot of different problems, so now the master planning faces with the comprehensive reform.Currently, all types of cities have conducted a new round of urban master planning and revision. Its purpose is to response to the increasing size of cities and guide the urban economy can develop reasonably and healthily. In the former master planning, people tend to focus on the urban industries layout and development functional partition and study the urban landscape and urban characteristic less, and other planning levels are difficult to consider from the over-all urban layout.Therefore, this article studies the characteristics of cities to integrate construction elements, methods and advices of characteristics of cities into the urban master planning which is a programmatic document in terms of urban development, in order to guide the urban planning and urban design betterThis article is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical research focuses on the necessity of connotation of urban characteristic, phenomenon of losing urban characteristic and the research of urban characteristic problems both at home and abroad, as well as the principle and methods of urban characteristic construction in urban master planning stage. The second part combines with the example of urban master planning in Xiangtan city and analyses necessarily the current status, putting forward the proposals and methods of urban characteristic construction of Xiangtan city in this stage. They manly embody three elements of urban characteristic:the urban natural environment, urban artificial landscape, urban social and historical environment.
