Farmland is the basic vector and the fundamental resource for human survival. For a long time, the value of the farmland is focused mainly on the economic outputs, while the ecological functions and the social security functions of farmland have long been neglected in various researches. With the rapid growth of industrialization and urbanization, the farmland has been increasingly occupied by non-farming constructions, during which the ecological value of the farmland disappears gradually. Few researches have been given on the evaluation of the ecological value of the farmland both overseas and at home.On theoretical basis of Ecological Economics and Land Ecology, the author reviews the various methods of evaluating the ecological value in foreign and home studies. By comparative and inductive studies of the existing evaluation methods, the author builds an evaluation model of the ecological value of farmland in Shaanxi province, and evaluates the loss of the farmland in the procession of non-farming constructions. This evaluation model references the methods of market evaluation, the preference evaluation and coefficient method of the value of ecosystem services, and revises ecological service value of unit area ecosystem. The thesis studies the service functions of the farmland in Shaanxi province from five aspects: soil conservation, water conservation, air purification, biodiversity conservation and cultural entertainment respectively. The author points out the ecological value loss of Shaanxi farmland from 2000 to 2009, and proposes relative measures that keep the rational use of agricultural resources and improve the ecosystem services of farmland.
