| Chinese ENGOs are becoming increasingly significant power in environment protection with their development after 2000. Under the condition of new media, by exploring websites of ENGO's, including their information dissemination, media mobilization and policy impacts, will help public and media understand the content and mechanism of websites'information and help ENGOs improve their ability to mobilize media and impact policies. This study selects four ENGOs websites (All-China Environment Federation, Friends of Nature, Greenpeace and Institute of Public & Environment Affairs) as the typical websites of four categories of ENGOs. Based on the generalizing of websites'structures, utilization of image and video, this study adapts content analysis (quantitative research) and text analysis (qualitative research) to analyze the similarities and differences among the dynamic content and discuss the functions of media mobilize and policy impacts. The further case study of "heavy metals pollution" issue explains and evaluates the means of websites to achieve the above functions. The result of Quantitative study shows that information dissemination on site are original content based, but government-sponsored ENGO site republic more articles from official or party newspapers (media). Environment events are most concerned content, and the top three events are environment activities, pollution or climate change disclosure and tracking. The site of government-sponsored ENGO provides more information on governments'pollution control. While the site based on internet reports the information on pollution incident with high intensity. In addition, the organization's activities are another main content of information dissemination. Websites'information shows their attitude to environment issues. The international ENGO site's attitude is the most obvious and extreme. The site of government-sponsored ENGO show a relatively soft attitude on environmental issues is relatively slow. From 2007, ENGO site has enhanced the information dissemination, the attitude of information from government-sponsored and civil organizations sites become more and more clear.Qualitative study on dynamic content shows that web sites pay much attention on the government-related information with different ways. The information is released around specific issues. However, except on the international ENGO's websites, the release of information on other sites lacks of systematization and continuity, which will undermine their impacts policies. Besides, Websites show good communication with media, while international ENGO's website shows a one-way (from ENGO to media) information flow.Case study on"heavy metals pollution"issue shows that sites of government-sponsored and civil ENGOs follows the relative policies closely, but don't raise a more independent statement on this issue. |
