Researching On Ernest Nagel's Thoughts Of Philosophy Of Science

Ernest Nagel is a prestigious master of the scientific philosophy. His works of scientific philosophy caused great influence. Many viewpoints of Nagel have influence on the development of the philosophy of science, such as his view of scientific explanation, the naturalistic and G(o|¨)del's proof. Among them, the most classic is his view about scientific explanation which has been regarded as one of the top ten views in the history of philosophy of science.The beginning of this article is about the life and background of Nagel's thoughts, so that we can more clearly understand the causes of his philosophy science. Then, the article explicates each of the three basic viewpoints of Nagel's philosophy science.Firstly, we discuss the thoughts about Nagel's scientific explanation. Nagel's thoughts about the theory of scientific explanation include how to distinguish between scientific and common sense, the concept of scientific explanation and some examples of scientific explanation. Secondly, we analyze and explain the nature of science, the logical structure of study and knowledge structure. In order to facilitates further understanding of the nature of scientific explanation. Finally, we describe structure and characteristics of knowledge of all areas of special scientific of scientific explanation and then evaluate of Nagel's thoughts of scientific explanation.To the naturalistic view of Nagel's, we first explain what the naturalism is, then, we explicate the naturalistic view of Nagel's. We inquiry Nagel's the naturalistic point about the relationship between human beings and nature which possess great significance, i.e. by study the view of man and nature of Nagel, we can understand a number of problem about the relationship between human beings and nature, such as"What is the relationship between man and nature in the end? Whether human are natures really masters? Do human really have a priority in the nature compared with other organisms?"Finally, we deal with the problem and basic thoughts in G(o|¨)del's proof which written by Nagel. We explicate that in the book, Nagel develop a set of readable and non-technical explanation of the main ideas and broad implications of G(o|¨)del findings, which possess of great influence to the philosophy of mathematics, logic and philosophy, and help those persons who interested in mathematics, logic and philosophy to facilitate their understanding of the incomprehensible and difficult to match the original topic.At last, we evaluate the significance of Nagel's philosophy of science.
