We carried out the analysis on the vegetative and reproductive morphology, anatomy and development of Polyopes polyideoides, Carpopeltis affinis, C.dalianensis from Dalian, and the reproductive morphology, development and rbcL gene sequences of Grateloupia yangjiangensis respectively from Yangjiang (Guangdong Province), Lingshui and Yinggehai (Hainan Province), the results show that:(1) Polyopes polyideoides: After the distribution of spore, the basic cell divided to disk directly, without any form of filaments, Polyopes polyideoides was the direct disk type.(2) C. affinis (Harv) Okamura: After the distribution of spore, the basic cell formed initially, then it continued to divide to two types. The first type, basic cells gradually extended to protonema, then the terminal cells kept dividing, the total volume was increasing, the protonema disappeared, and finally the disk formed; the second type, the basic cells formed without the information of the filaments, they cruciately divided, and then divided to disk directly.(3) C. dalianensis Wang et Zhang: Auxiliary cell and carpogonial ampullae are the simple Aeodes type. It is distinguished from other Grateloupia species by the following morphological features: (1) 5-6 times irregularly dichotomous branches, branches at the base part is not constricted or slightly constricted, the terminal branches were not bifurcate or passivating; (2) the terminal branches were gradually narrow, most of the branches is equal-diameter; (3) main branch at the basic part of the thalli was cylindrical; (4) there was proliferation on the thalli. Its basic cells gradually divided to protonema, then expanded and formed discoid shape on one side of propagule, Finally, propagules began to grow on the disk. C.dalianensis is the indirect disk type. It is therefore the new species of Carpopeltis as C.dalianensis sp.nov. Wang et Zhang.(4) G. yangjiangensis: Auxiliary cell and carpogonial ampullae are the simple Grateloupia type. NJ phylogenetic tree also showed that G. yangjiangensis form a large Grateloupia subclade with other species of Grateloupia including the generitype G. filicina, it also supported the morphological results. Based on morphological and rbcL gene sequence analysis, it indicated that G. yangjiangensis is a single species within Grateloupia.
