The situation of international trade is so complicated now. As a large sized business group, the Hiking Group was jointly established in June 2002 by Hiking Group Co. Ltd, Shandong Textiles Import & Export Corporation, Shandong Arts & Crafts Import & Export Group Co., Ltd., Shandong Special Arts & Crafts Import & Export Corporation, China Export Bases Development Shandong Corporation and China Packing Import & Export Shandong Company. Currently, the Hiking Group has 132 holdings and joint stock companies engaged in international trade, financial investment, logistics and real estate development, with over 16,000 employees.Centered on the theme of "integration, reform and development", the Group attaches much importance to integrating resources and structural reform, and has achieved good results in all fields. In the past three years, the Group accomplished a total import and export volume of US$5.0 billion, with an average yearly growth of 30%, ranking first among all the foreign trade companies in Shandong Province. In 2004, the Group ranked 69 among the "Top 500" import and export companies in China with a business margin of US$1.44 billion. In 2005, the Group had a business margin of over US$1.9 billion, to which exports contributed US$1150 million.But there are still some bottlenecks that may block its speedy development. This thesis analyzes the company's management mode from four aspects, including the organization structure, decision-making system, corporate culture establishment and the management of subsidiary companies, and points out both advantages and disadvantages in these four aspects compared with successful trade corporations in Japan and Korea.Also this thesis tries to figure out how to perfect its reform. To improving its management, the Hiking group needs to reform the corporation strategy, corporate culture and establish an ideal system of performance management.
