With the development of strategic alliances, this form of competition hasbecome an import part in MNCs' global strategy. In front of the fierce competition,Chinese corporations should make use of strategic alliances so as to break the bottleneck ofcompany resources and to make a great leap on the way of internationalization. This paperstarts from the conception, characteristics and trends of strategic alliances, analyzesinternal and external drivers of strategic alliances, and continues the analysis on the basisof various theories. After that, two famous cases of MNCs' strategic alliances, namely,General Motors and Samsung Group, are analyzed for illustration purposes. Throughcareful analysis of General Motors and Samsung Group, together with experiences fromsome other domestic and international strategic alliances, this paper uses the experiencesand lessons of strategic alliances as reference and gets revelations on how to choosestrategic alliance partners, how to use forms of strategic alliances and advices oncorporations' self-development.This paper focuses on the experience of other countries for reference. On theaspect of choosing strategic alliance partners, corporations should base themselves on threeCs, that is, compatibility, capability and commitment. On the aspect of choosing forms ofstrategic alliances, corporations, on one hand, should retain core competencies and buildthe brands, and, on the other hand, should strengthen the cooperation and complementbetween companies so as to enhance corporations' competitiveness. This requirescorporations to make breakthroughs in creation, reputation and learning mechanism.Beside of analyzing MNCs' cases, this paper also explores domestic corporations,including domestic and international cooperations aimed at Chinese market andcooperation with MNCs aimed at exploring a third market. The revelation is a main part ofthis article.
