Editor is the general name for all the personnels working on university newspaper. As a special group, they have dual identities---both eduacators in universities and journalists. The existence and development of higher education institutions are facing with unprecedented challenge in the process of development of market economy and deepening reform of education system, and the educators in higher education institutions are suffering from work pressure and job burnout. Meanwhile, with the development of society and popularization of new media, journalists, especially those in traditional medias as newspaper, are facing with more and more severe challenge, stronger pressure and job burnout. Therefore, it is significant to make study on the work pressure of university newspaper editors, job burnout and subjective well-being, which is crucial to their healthy development.The research is composed of two parts. The first part is the designing of pressure scale of editors in higher education institutions; the second is discussion on the relationship among pressure, job burnout and subjective well-being with job burnout as mediator. Questionaires have been conducted to 405 newspaper editors working in 274 higher education institutions of 31 provinces nation wide with the pressure scale, job burnout scale and well-being scale. By processing the statistics with SPSS15.0 and multvariate analysis, corelation analysis and regression analysis, the following results have been achieved:1) Overall, newspaper editors of higher education institutions are suffering from pressure at an intermediate level, an obvious job burnout with relative high intensity and the a bit over-average subjective well-being; 2) the work pressure of editing is liable to produce job burnout and thus having impact on the subjective well-being;3) job burnout is a partial mediator in the function of pressure of editing to subjective well-being.
