With the development of bridges construction and traffic increases, more attention has been drawn to the safety, durability and normal functionality of these existing bridges. Bridge Management System (BMS) has been introduced into these bridges and got rapid development. Bridge inspection is the basis part for bridge management; however, most of popular BMS is lack of support for the bridge inspection now. Bridge inspection data collection has become a key point of bridge management.In this thesis, using PDA mobile data collection technology, researched and developed the Bridge Management System of PDA-based Field Data Collection. Realized the bridge inspection data collection, entry and processing of organic integration.The system primarily serves the function of a bridge inspection. Its most users are bridge inspection businesses and grassroots bridge maintenance departments. Based on this positioning, we finished the whole system requirements analysis and the PDA subsystem requirements analysis.Through systematic data analysis, we constructed the bridge database that contains the basic information, check information, historical information, model information (the bridge structure model, disease model, evaluation model and maintenance model), related documents and other information.By analyzing the bridge inspection process and bridge inspection data flow, the whole system is designed to three logic modules: bridge inspection preparation module, PDA field data collection module and inspection data processing module, and designed and developed the three modules in detail.The System achieved intelligentization of the bridge inspection data collection and processing. Before the ridge inspection, generated bridge inspection plan based on the bridge basic data and exported to the PDA. Using PDA records the inspection collection data during the bridge inspection and then the PDA data will be collect directly into the computer to analysis it and make the bridge inspection report, and evaluate the bridge's technical condition, and obtain the early warning for the bridge defect and provide maintenance strategies.The system adopted the Microsoft.NET & .NET CF technology, Visual Studio 2005 development tools, and SQL Server 2005 & SQL Server CE database platform.This thesis studied the software to make intelligent data collection system as an integral part of BMS. It is an active exploration to promote the development of BMS. For test results, it is satisfy to bridge inspection businesses and the grassroots bridge maintenance departments, greatly improve the bridge inspection quality and efficiency.
