The development and growth of the Internet during the past thirty years has led to demand for and development of Internet services everywhere and over every possible communications medium. This includes the medium of satellite communications. During those same three decades, the growth in use of satellite communications to provide a widely-available wireless communications infrastructure has led to the development of broadband satellite communications using satellite constellation networks. These two technological trends have intersected.First, we introduce brief history of the satellite communication systems. Then the current application situation of the satellite communication systems is written down according to some literature. Then we explain the contribution of this work and list the contents of the paper.As a basic structure of satellite constellation network, the satellite constellation is the first issues to examine before network building. Consequently, the second chapter focuses on the character of the satellite constellation, including satellite motion, orbit parameters and constellation structure. What's more, the constellation networking is discussed.Because of the rapid change of the constellation network topology, the routing algorithms for the terrestrial network are not suitable for the satellite network. Thanks to the satellite's periodic movement, we then apply the methods of topology snapshots to deal with the change of the topology. If the duration of traffic covers several snapshots, the delay variance caused by the handovers is becoming an important reason dropping the QoS of satellite network. We then propose a routing algorithm considering the handover of satellite networks. The performance is also measured and recorded.In order to observe the simulation process and result more intuitively, we design a Visualized Satellite Network System in chapter 4. The system consists of 4 parts: the simulation platform, control platform, demonstration platform and result output module. The simulation platform is built with opnet which is able to send the status parameters to other parts by sockets. Then the demonstration platform can illustrate the network topology and packets routing in real time, the result output module can show the current simulation date on the chart.At last, we conclude the main contents of the research work and estimate the future work of our project.
