The satellite mobile communication system, which is the emphasis of the academic research, is the most significant portion of the 3G communication system. This paper, including six chapters, focuses on the design and simulation of the satellite mobile communication system. The detailed description of research work accomplished by author in postgraduate period lies in from the 2nd chapter to the 6th chapter. The first chapter generalizes the satellite mobile communication system and its categories, emphasizing on the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication system and the key technologies. The next introduction is the signaling system, emphasizing on the channels and signaling system defined by the IS-95 standard. At last, the author introduces the research significance and the arrangement of the whole dissertation. At the beginning of Chapter 2, the author gives out a simple introduction of two developing tools—the Visual C++ and OPNET, describing the characteristics of the software. The powerful computing capability of Visual C++ is adapt to the design of the simulation software about the covering characteristic of a satellite constellation. While the convenient modeling function is adapt to the simulation research of the kernel network. The rest of this chapter interprets the simulation task to be accomplished. Chapter 3 makes research on the design of the simulation software about the covering characteristic of a satellite constellation. Though the current available simulation software has provided powerful simulation capability, some statistic data are not perfect, such as the minimum elevation and the mean elevation. For the need of practical research, this chapter interprets a set of the simulation software about the covering characteristic of a satellite constellation developed by Visual C++. The emphasis is the algorithm and the implement means for the statistic characteristics of the instant covering characteristic of a satellite constellation ,the minimum elevation ,the mean elevation and so on.. The last is the simulation results of some typical constellations, which manifest this kit of software can provide excellent views of the covering characteristic of a satellite constellation and sensible references for the design of constellation system.
