(HDD)Hard Driver Disk is one of the most important component of a computer system. With the development of computer technology as well as the growing demand for data storage, high-capacity storage systems have been used, as a mainstrem, in many enterprises. As a specialized storage systems, how to improve its security and reliability have been the focus of the research in the field of Storage.Nowadays, the testing for functionality, integrity, reliability, and compatibility of storage systems with various functions has been the main part of Storage Testing department. But, below the most current circumstance, it is difficult to quickly and effectively reach for. Obviously it is because the HDD is a"black box"for storage vendors, that is to say, the source of HDD's failure is difficult to learn and it is hard to control the HDD's failure, not metion the effective testing for storage system on the condition making HDD convey to the storage shelf.On the other hand, as far as the storage system is concerned, the HDD exist as a outside part because the HDD itself is perishable and expensive, which makes it be the short plank for storage system's reliability and cost. Therefore, the Research and Development Testing, the tremendous using of HDD in producing storage and the HDD's failure have made the high cost of production and R&D and make it impossible to meet the requirement of testing.Because the Flash Memory's reliability has also been enhancing with the upgrade of its capacity and the drop of its prices, a lot of storage vendors gradually focus on the SSD (Solid State Disk) area. It is said that many storage vendors like EMC, INTEL, HITACHI have had their SSD on the shelf..The enterprise in which I used to be a intern also has had SSD R&D department and its SSDs are already serviced on the market. We propose such a program on the status quote that whether we can make a reusable virtual HDD with low-cost and easy-controlled failure by taking the advantage of SSD technology. After a series of tests on the current storage mode, the research for the test method and evaluation as well as the feasibility of the project, we finalized to research and design Ram Disk(the SSD-based virtual HDD) in order to solve the blind side in the storage testing.
