RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is a new automatic technology of non-contact identification which boomed up in 1990s.It automatically identify the objects with radio signal by air.In RFID domain,the ultra-high frequency (short for UHF) is the most advanced.UHF RFID has advantage of long distance and quick identification ,relatively long life and so on which is widely applied in manufacturing, logistics, transportation, anti-counterfeiting and so on. Its application will have a perfect foreground in the future with the improvement of the technology iteself.This paper firstly presents the background of RFID technology,application,the trend and the research status of RFID technology,then the composition of RFID systems and related principle are presented with a scheme of UHF RFID readers, which includes the hardware designs as follows: digital circuit,RF transceiver circuit, power amplifier and other muddle circuit. In the software, this paper gives out the program structure and relative algorithm in accord with ISO 18000-6C with fuctions of tag inventory, select, read, write in byte , frequency-hopping and power's control. In addition,it analys the specificaitons and difficulties of dipole-type antennas,and designs this kind of antenna.The investigated module of UHF RFID reader well accords with the design demand.
