With the rapid expansion of Internet, network application increase quickly and network architecture changed greatly, network performance monitoring and management are strongly required. The research of network flow characteristic is the basis to understand network behaviors, network planning and network management. The network traffic measurement technology is one way of network measurement. The monitoring and analyzing of network traffic is an effective method to know the traffic characteristics. The main contents of this paper:Based on the analysis of the existing network measurement infrastructure framework, a Linux-based Gigabit Network Traffic Monitoring Instrument is Designed and implemented.①Design system ArchitectureBased on the analysis of system design objectives and the functional requirements, this paper reference the RTFM network traffic measurement system framework and put forward the architecture of the Gigabit network traffic Monitoring system. The structural model is divided into four parts that is data acquisition, data storage, data analysis and data show. According to this hierarchical model, the system is composed of two subsystems: subsystem of kernel space and subsystem of user. Subsystem of kernel space complete data acquisition function and subsystem of user complete the function of data storage and data analysis.②Design and implement the subsystem of user spaceThe main function of subsystem of user space is storing flow data and analyzing traffic data. The subsystem is composed of central database and protocol analysis platform, and is divided into four functional modules, which are Data unloading modules, Database management module, System configuration module, Analysis and query module. The central database system using the MySQL database system, and import or export database information, which improve operational efficiency of the system. In the data display and analysis, the system provides graphical user interface to display the results of the data analysis, which help users access to valuable information hidden in the substantive data. ③Extensive system testThe outcome of the system test in real condition is showed, which shows that the function and performance of system accord with what the system required. The network traffic monitoring system will be used in commercial after the further improvement.Gigabit Network Traffic Monitor mainly in the two areas has good prospects for application: firstly, through the analysis of the network traffic, it helps network manager to find network soft-fault. secondly, via analyzing traffic and direction of network service to portray network flow distribution and the situation of flow to / from different region. The system is suitable for marketing department and network maintenance department of operators and network maintenance personnel of government or enterprise.
