With the rapid development of electronic information industry, excellent performance and massive data processing ability have been endowed to the computer. At the same time, the complexity of computer peripheral equipment has been greatly improved. Therefore, efficient, convenient and stable connection is required between increasingly stronger computer and constantly developing computer peripheral equipment. In this demand, Universal Serial Bus (USB) has been researched and developed. USB is a kind of serial bus realizing communication between computer and computer peripheral equipment and characterized by high data throughput rate, convenient usage, plug and play technique, low cost and easy extension. Because the advantages, USB obtains the support of most electronic manufacturers and consumers, occupies the market, and becomes the first choice of connecting computer and computer peripheral equipment.Systematic research and development of USB device system is illustrated in this article, including the interpretation of protocol, design of USB2.0 digital IP core, design and application of USB2.0 device system. A kind of hardware platform is also introduced in the article for SoC system development of wireless LAN.First of all, the concept of computer bus, computer bus development trend, and several advanced bus protocols are introduced in this article. In this way, USB is involved in, and USB development course, features and advantages are emphatically described.And then, USB2.0 protocol is analyzed from the perspective of device, including bus system architecture, electrical characteristics, communication architecture, informational format and transmission mode. UTMI protocol which is used in realization process is expounded simply.A design method of digital IP core of USB2.0 device is proposed in this article on the base of USB2.0 protocol analysis. The IP core is divided into six modules: UTMI, Protocol Layer, Endpoint Control & Status Registers, Memory Interface Arbiter and Wishbone Interface. The implementation process of all the six modules is expounded in detail.On the purpose of thorough study USB2.0 device, a data transmission system based on USB2.0 device is implemented, and is applied to Portable Real-time Image System, USB2.0 Programmer and Realization of 802.11 a/b/g/n MAC. This content is divided into six sections, including system composition, hardware design, firmware design, driver design, FPGA control code design, system verification and application.Finally, a kind of hardware platform which satisfies practical project requirement and is oriented to design and verification of WLAN communication SoC. Entire scheme and architecture of hardware platform, core structure of system mother board, framework of FPGA core board, system verification and application are illustrated in detail.
