As the era of network is coming, people's demand for information is booming day by day. Internet business has been dramatically developed from global point of view, has very strong impact and big challenge towards traditional telecom business, meanwhile, it also provides good opportunities as well. As per current information technology development, there is a trend that it is always along with more and more data, broadband and convergence, transmission and switching converging, circuit switching evolving into packet switching, network becoming broadband, intelligent, integrated, compatible with higher requirement of stability and flexibility. The main content of this thesis focuses on deep study of network technologies of Metropolis Optical Network and its application in China Netcom Jinan City Metropolis Optical Network.Firstly, the thesis provides general description of technical development background of SDH optic transmission network, introduces basic concept, basic types of networking and topology architecture, it also provides stability calculation and analysis on various types of network topology architecture. Moreover, also gives deep description on the evolution, advantage, standards as well as commercialization status, features and composition of metropolis transmission network, architecture and major network design elements. Through overall analysis of business and demand driven by customer, it helps us to determine the selection of network elements and route configuration plan, so as to decide the network topology architecture accordingly, going forward, it can helps us to analyse and select the application technologies and equipment types as per final business requirement.Secondly, according to design and implementation of China Netcom Jinan City Metropolis Network, it introduces basic design method and design procedure of metropolis Optical Network, describes how to define network layers and structure by adopting the concept and method of Telecom Network Fundamental Theory, consequently determines the network structural layer based on service supplier business forecast and integrated analysis result of network topology.Finally, according to detail requirement of service business of China Netcom Jinan City Metropolis Project, we can set up basic network model and perform analysis on network model via MILP (mixed-integer linear programming) arithmetic, determine route and capacity selection of each layers, furthermore, we can clarify the configuration, quantity of the network equipment as well as network management system solution.In conclusion, the thesis describes network design rules and methods of Metropolis Network according to realistic design and project implementation of China Netcom Jinan City Metropolis Project, develops a complete growth design plan per current network status and future service business demanding, summarizes a realistic and effective design rules and arithmetic for metropolitan network, which provides the theory foundation and calculating method as an effective way of metro network design.
