With the development of economy and the improvement of people's material and cultural well-beings, they attach more and more importance to sports culture so that mass communication pays increasingly greater attention to it.As a television sports commentator, the core of sports telecasts, takes the charge of interpreting television images for viewers and providing full and accurate background information. Dissemination of sports is virtually that of culture. Sports comment is also a bridge between sports event information and audience. Through television sports review, audience will acquire needed information as much as possible. Nevertheless, there still exist a lot of problems unsolved for domestic television sports commentators. The research will cover the contents from the developmental history of domestic television sports commentators, the analysis of television sports commentators as a subject, the study on audience, and finally to tentative discussions, from the perspective of communicative strategies, on how to be a qualified television sports commentator, on what qualifications a communicative subject should bear, and on which characteristics the audience of sports television programs will embody as well as what kind of expectations they will hold for these programs.Based on the above-mentioned analysis, the paper will present the conclusion that the job of a television sports commentator, in nature, is within the category of anchoring. It is convinced that in the paper that a television sports commentator should first possess scientific theoretical systems and thinking processes; second, professional knowledge and competence in the aspects of sports culture, television communication, and broadcast skills; and last, an exceptional expression power, the basis of all. In this connection, the accuracy, refinement, artistic quality of the language, together with the sense of liveliness and of presence as well as inspiration ability, are all the qualifications an exceptional television sports commentator will unremittingly persue.
