With the accelerating of network infrastructure construction and the increasingly extensive of network application, the number of network user is continuously increasing; the internet has become the most important medium for resource sharing and information communication. Nowadays, although there are a variety of network applications and services to choose for people, the main use of the internet is still information retrieval. People are enthusing about network retrieval and there are many search engines to help people obtain information, however, owing to personal reason and limitation of search tools'function, retrieval result is always unsatisfactory. There is subjectivity in the user's appraisal of retrieval result failure; therefore they could not make an objective judgment of the real cause. The author introduces the Attribution Theory in seeking new solution of the difficulties in information retrieval, analysis user's searching behavior from an attribution point and makes the attribution analysis for the process of user's search failure. This paper will help the user to find the real reason for their searching failure, enhance the retrieval efficiency, and provide guidance for improving retrieval system service.
