With advances in semiconductor technology, power integrated circuits has been rapidly developed. The power operation amplifier has a wide application in the fields of military and civilian. Audio power amplifier is an important part of power integrated circuits, which is widely used in high performance audio systems, stereo phonographs, servo amplifiers and instrument systems. Nowadays, people emphasize high power and high efficiency as well as high fidelity feature on the audio power amplifier. So it is of great practical importance to study the audio power amplifier. In this thesis, much work has been performed on the audio amplifier TDA1517 of Philips Inc. An integrated class-B dual output amplifier with MUTE/STANDBY switch with the power of 2×6W was designed on the basis of the audio amplifier TDA1517. The system is divided into many parts according to the designing goal, including differential input stage, middle amplifier, negative feed-back, thermal protection circuit, over-current protection, input range limited block etc. The principle of every block is analyzed, and then the circuit of the system is realized in transistor level. The whole circuit of the audio amplifier is simulated by using the Cadence software. The results indicate that the designed audio amplifier meet the designing requirements. The system works well and get high stability. The layout of the system is designed by using tools of Cadence Virtuoso in CSMC 1.6μm bipolar model process. Then the rationality of the whole layout was verified by the DRC and the LVS.
