The pre-processing of glass defect image is very import to the detection of glass defects,this is because that during the image acquisition the glass images will have some quality problems such as the random noise generated by the image acquisition equipment, the fuzzy character and edge of the defects caused by low-contrast. All of the problems are due to the influence of the external environment, equipment or human factors. And the existence of these quality problems impact the normal identification of the glass defect .Therefore, a certain image processing technology must be adoptde to remove the image noise , increase the image's contrast and improve the visual effects of the images. In this paper , a approach of pre-processing system for glass defect image is presented after referring to related information and relevant equipment.Firstly, a complete set of image acquisition equipment is selected based on the research of the image acquisition method. And the images collected by the system meet the quality demand of the pre-processing.Secondly,the pre-processing is divided into the fllowing steps: gray level transformation,image enhancement,image smooth processing and image sharpening based on analysising of the images' characteristics and the system's design proposal. The processing method,the parameter of various steps,and the most appropriate approach of treatment to different glass defect are selected by comparing the results of the simulation experiment achieved through MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox.Finally,developed the pre-processing system using Visual C++. NET. The system is easily operated and have a good interface of man-machine dialogue.
