The true 3D display technology demonstrates 3D images in three-dimensional media. Unlike the traditional display technology that shows 3D objects on 2D media by means of perspective and shade, the true 3D display technology directly renders three dimensions of objects in the space. And these true-3D-rendered images provide multi-views for the viewers. This paper introduces true 3D display technology to the reconstruction and display of molecules, organs and parenchyma models and emphasizes the voxel-processing.First, this paper introduces the true 3D conception and its classification. According to the current development and demand of display technology, this paper analyzes application prospect of true 3D display technology in bio-medical research area. Second, this paper elaborates the scientific principle of true 3D display technology and explains the formation of dynamic and static true 3D images.Third, the voxel-processing in true 3D display is mainly discussed. Based on the multidimensional signal sampling theory, the mathematical models of sampling matrices are given and the comparison is made between the Descartes cubic lattice and BCC (Body Centered Cubic) lattice in terms of two aspects: the sampling efficiency and the SRD (range of the possible values of the sum of relative distances from an arbitrary point to its two closest neighboring grid points). In addition, this paper presents the BCC voxelization algorithm based on Euclidian Distance Criterion and improves this algorithm to avoid the image quality reduction from excessive voxel compression. Using common image evaluation methods, this paper proposes subjective and objective image evaluation methods to evaluate 3D images voxelized by improved and original algorithms. Finally, the imaging verification experiments of bio-medical models performed on the true 3D display platform are reported by using the improved algorithm.
