With the quick development of the Internet, the streaming media technology is used widely. The traffic of streaming media has taken an important part in Internet access. In conditions of limited resources, the problem of how to meet the fast-growing user demand and keep the quality of service while reducing single stream cost of services, has become a challenge for streaming media technology.In this paper, firstly we contrast the characteristics of three existing solutions including proxy server, CDN and client-based P2P network, streaming media in traffic, get their individual limitations. Based on the characteristic of streaming media, we research on kinds of P2P protocols, caching and distribution strategies. Then we make some improvement on Chord protocol by setting up multi-circles using the topological correlation in peers. At last, we design and implement a streaming media system including both P2P overlay network and proxy server.The contribution of this paper is as follows:●Study and analyze the different P2P protocols;●Study and analyze the different caching strategies which are fit for streaming media;●Improve the Chord algorithm by consider the topological correlation in peers;●Implement the client and proxy based on JXTA;Finally, we test the performance of the new kind of streaming media system, and conclude that it has a good effect in improving the quality of service, reducing transmission delay and load of streaming media server.
