With the quick development of the Internet, the streaming media technology is used widely. The traffic of streaming media has taken an important part in Internet access. Streaming media transport research becomes an important way to improve streaming media utilization on Internet.In this paper, firstly we contrast the characteristic of HTTP and streaming media in traffic. We will find that the traditional HTTP proxy is not fit for streaming media. Based on the characteristic of streaming media, we study and analyze kinds of caching strategies. Then we make some improvement of prefix caching strategy using the popularity of the presentations. In the improved strategy, every presentation has according own prefix caching size based on its popularity. For suffix media, a kind of buffering algorithm named 'Interval' is used which can share the most of request for the same suffix media. At last, design and implement the new kind of streaming media proxy.The contribution of this paper is as follows:Study and analyze the different caching strategies which are fit for streaming media;Improve the prefix caching strategy using the presentation's popularity;Use Interval buffering algorithm for suffix media data;Implement the protocols about streaming media;Finally, we test the performance of the new kind of streaming media proxy and compare it with the original prefix caching technology. And we conclude that the new kind of proxy is deployed in the edge of network, and using the proxy we can have a good effect in reducing network traffic, transmission delay and load of streaming media server.
