Si-bu cong-kan,which was printed by Shang-wu yin-shu-guan(The Commercial Press) in the early twentieth century,is one of the most widely used classics collectanea. Despite the many researches on it during the past years, however, some principle and specific problems about this collectanea remain poorly understood. This thesis chose the first installment(chu bian) of Si-bu cong-kan as a research object, and was divided into three chapters to discuss some problems deeply.ChapterⅠis about the manner of book frame measurement. After measuring 100 frames of the original editions and comparing the dates with their copies',we could speculate the manner that was adopted by Zhang yuanji in his time.Furthermore, through comparing the advantage and disadvantage of several manners, the chapter gave some useful advice to find a standard for this problem.ChapterⅡfocus on "miao run"(to embellish photographic plates),which is a controversial topic about the classics photocopy. Many typical examples were used here to show the difference between the original and the copy.In addition,"miao run" led to the appearance of new editions, which should be noticed when using Si-bu cong-kan.ChapterⅢputs emphasis on Si-bu cong-kan shu-lu(an annotated catalog),such as the process of compiling, the main content and characteristics. This catalog has not been used a lot for many reasons, but it is of great value to bibliography research.By means of numerous authentic examples and the method of philology, this thesis not only tried to find some practical solution to the three problems mentioned above, but also provided several approaches to the relative research from a particular aspect.
