Traveling-wave Tube (TWT) is an extremely important component in microwave applications. The capability of TWT is associated with the matching performance of the convergence attenuator. The quality of matching performance lies on the distribution law of attenuation coat on clamp-pole which composes the convergence attenuator. Therefore, the distribution of attenuation coat of the convergence attenuator is a crucial effect on the performance of the TWT, testing it has an extremely significance.A microwave measurement system is fabricated based on the principle of scalar network analyzer, which can automatically measure the attenuation distribution along the axial direction of the attenuation coat on the clamp-pole that compose the convergence attenuator in the TWT at X-band.The automatic measurement system consists of several microwave components, such as frequency synthesizer, dual directional coupler, detector, testing transducer, etc. A mechanical driving device is built up for the testing purpose of the project. Based on the characteristic of testing sample, a specific microwave shielding structure in the transducer is designed, called filter. A micro-computer control module imbedded in the system, implements the function of collecting, disposing, displaying testing data and managing the whole measurement procedure. The scalar network system could not assure the accuracy of the measurement results until the calibration is performed. It is the easy going operation interface that assures the operator to operate system easily and accomplish the measurement.The testing results have illuminated that the theoretical analysis of this research project is accurate and the design is rational. The measurement system has achieved the prescribed goal of this project; therefore, it is of great practical use.
